The Birth of The A Litter
Tuesday night it all started. Sea's was making her bed all night and couldn't quite relax. Needless to say, HER lack of rest led to ours. We stayed up all night waiting for something to happend but it didn't. In the morning she had calmed down and finally laid down for a rest. We took the opportunity to get some work done. At 2.30 pm we were all taken by surprise when er hear a "thick" sound. Her slime plug had finally given in and out came the first piece of fetal membrane poped out, full with water. And here came the wait, but nothing at all happend for a long time after that. She seemed restless at times, but mostly she rested. Good shot of the initial sack
At 6.00 pm the water finally broke, and now the real work started. Sea tried to keep herself active to speed up the process of getting them out, we took several walks around the block.
At 9.15 pm she finally laid down and out slipped Alaska, we hardly even noticed it. The fetus membrane and placenta was gone and eaten in a blink of an eye (she must have been hungry after her long fast), and she started licking Alaska raw. She let us take Alaska for a moment (under close watch of course) while we checked her and weighed her. She weighed in at 121 grams. Everybody was thrilled when we saw that is was a girl!
Nothing happend in about 2 more hours, and Sea was licking Alaska contantly during this time. She was so happy to have a baby again. Alaska was proving herself to be a strong and active baby, didn't give and inch and latched on to mom for dear life, despite the brutal toung work. Now you could see that Sea had started pushing again, so we made
When the mommy had rested for about an hour, she started to get some more energy back behind the licking, and we wondered if it was over, and then totally unexpetadly, at 00.18 am, little Africa slipped out allmost unnoticably. I would even have known it if I weren't sitting by her rear at that point washing her a bit. I dont know if Sea even noticed it slip out, but she was still quick once it was out to start chewing of the membrane. Africa was a real fighter, she was kicking like a beast inside her sack, and since she came out rear first, and Sea was to tired to notice she was only opening up the rear end, I had to turn the baby face down and get away the mebrane and water from her face. She spit once, and then she was absolutely fine. She weighed in at 96 grams and we were absolutely chocked. It was one more miracle girl!
Mom soon settled in with her babies after we had changed the sheets, and the rest is history.
